Working With Adults
My practice with adult clients varies widely. I am skilled in helping individuals
address mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, as well as adjustment problems
such as major life transitions: marriage, divorce, grief/loss, career/job changes
and parenthood. I am a Certified Gottman Instructor for the Bringing Baby Home program,
which helps new parents strengthen and maintain their coupleship during the course
of adjusting to parenthood.
My clinical orientation primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative
approaches Family Systems, and a relatively new approach called Interpersonal Neurobiology
(IPNB) which is a mind/body approach of understanding how the brain-behavior and
relationships coexist and impact our lives. The leading researcher in this field
is Dr. Daniel Siegel, a research psychiatrist at the University of California, Los
Angeles. My study of IPNB has cultivated a deeper understanding of the nervous system,
which is proving to be helpful in the healing process. Because of this research,
we know that we can “re-wire” our neural pathways and make profound changes in how
we view our social and emotional lives.
As with children and teens, my style with adult clients is proactive. I enjoy clients
who desire making positive changes to improve their current circumstances, and offer
motivational strategies for those clients struggling with making the first steps
toward meeting their goals. I work closely with referring providers if medication
management is warranted.
Personal Interests: Out of the office, I enjoy exploring the Pacific Northwest,
reading, hiking, and since IPNB strongly encourages learning new things to keep
the brain healthy, I am currently learning how to knit.
